Spunky, compact paperback of the first in a series of six (I've only read three, and am delighted to find there are more). Sonchai Jitpleecheep is the protagonist in these crime novels and he is one of my favourite crime solvers, private investigators, detectives. These books unsurprisingly are set in Bangkok and as with many crime novels, have the location as a subject; stinky, steamy beautiful and enigmatic as that vast city is, Burdett makes it even more enigmatic and tantalising. Do yourselves a favour, this is a very devourable novel.
Corgi paperback, 2004, first published 2003, 431 pages (but they are little pages, this is not a loooong read like Shantaram or A Little Life).
