Mysticism A Study and an Anthology by F.C.Happold
Happold. What a good shape of a name. This book is dedicated to TS Eliot and includes a good going over by old Happold, born in Lancaster in 1893, eventually finding his ways to hallowed academic halls of Melbourne University (you know the type, erudite, self-sure) of the higher stages of contemplation, the mystical element of Buddhism, Julian of Norwich (chapter entitled The Homeliness of God, OH! how very male academic of the 1960s). Anyway – rich pickings in a broader exploration of mysticism (and both practice and manifestation of) – and of its time.
