The cat wrote that. I have different thoughts.
This book was pivotal for me, published in 1992 and really the harbinger of grunge lit in Australia. For me, it provided a voice to the disillusionment of my generation and was way more than a coming of age narrative, it was Australian and it was grunge - and accordingly deepened my sense of identity in a way that the Portland style grunge could only flirt with. Think about when you first started hearing hip hop with an Australian accent and what that did to a sense of identity.
It's drugs, alcohol, tricky relationship, discontent - and it was my early twenties.
