The Boat by Nam Le.
I was just getting back in the bookshop game. I'd been outta books for a good three or four years. Still nostalgia-straightening shelfs as I browsed others' terrain, but I'd been away from the game for a bit. This came out about the same time I came back to books - same time (ish) as Girl With A Dragon Tattoo (talk about a slippery slope of crime since then)... was released
Short stories by Nam Le, Australian, via Vietnam (his family left in 1979) roams everywhere, everywhere. I more remember the feeling of being entranced, marvelling at neat insights, than the stories themselves, it being years since I read it, but the blurb reminds me that the stories are set in Tehran, Colombia, New York, Victoria, Hiroshima. If I read that today I would be hesitant, but from memory Le does it majestically. I wonder what he has been writing lately....
Also - gorgeous cover design and good condition
